Cheung Sha Beach
Hongkong
Beaches
One of the many beaches along Southern Lantau coastline, Cheung Sha Beach stood out because it is the longest. Also, it is relatively quieter here compared to other beaches even at peak periods. A result of having a small headland in between, Cheung Chau Beach is divided into lower (eastern) beach and upper (western) beach.
Lower Cheung Sha Beach is close to Lower Cheung Sha Village where some houses have been converted to beachside restaurants. There are two popular restaurants favored by tourists arriving in junk namely The Stoep and News Bistro. The Stoep has a South African cuisine inspired menu while News Bistro offers Chinese, Thai, Western and Vegetarian menu. If you’re just starting to learn how, you need not to worry because lifeguard service operated from April to October. Changing rooms, showers and toilets are also available for your use.
Upper Cheung Sha Beach is a few minute walk from Lower Cheung Sha Beach, but this one seems relatively wild because it’s usually deserted. The beach is sometimes by locals for jogging and walking their dogs. More exposed to winds, Upper Cheung Sha is known as the Best Windsurfing Beach of Hong Kong. Although few people go here, there are still facilities for swimmers such as showers, changing rooms, toilets, snack kiosk and a barbecue area. There are also pavilions which serve as resting place.
From Cheung Sha Beach, you can take a bus to Ngong Ping, another top attraction in Hong Kong.
How to get there: 2 ways:
