Hiking Trails
Located between Kowloon Tong (Kowloon) and Tai Wai (New Territories), this hill served witness to Hong Kong’s legendary development through the years.
Lion Rock which is 495 meters high is obviously not famous for its height but rather for its shape. Its resemblance to a crouching lion best seen from East Kowloon makes it an interesting sight.
This trail links up with the MacLehose Trail and is located within Lion Rock Country Park in Tai Wai. Traditional tone trails guide you to the east and west sides of Lion Rock. The west side is characterized by rugged ridges but is considered an easy route to the summit. The east side crosses over Shatin Pass Road and links Tse Wan Shan in Kowloon with Tsok Pong Hang in Shatin.
There’s nothing special about the summit though as it is only consists of granite covered lightly by bushes. However, the view of the Kowloon Peninsula and Hong Kong Island from here will definitely take your breath away.
Consider visiting the Hong Kong Heritage Museum before or after your hike.
How to get there: Take MTR to Choi Hung then take a taxi to Gilwill Campsite. That is the starting point of the trail.
