Beaches
If you are looking for a quiet beach with the luxury of having the best food choices nearby, Shek O Beach is for you. A 1 to 2-hour travel from Central will bring you to this beautiful beach on the south of Cheung Chau Island.
Shek O is considered a laid-back village because of its traditional Chinese community ambiance. But judge not, as some of the Hong Kong’s wealthiest families also live in grand mansions in its headland. In addition to that, small shops selling inflatable toys and other beach gear, and a selection of old-fashioned restaurants and cafes offering al fresco dining are within the village. As expected, changing rooms, showers, and lifeguards are available.
Also accessible from the beach is Big Wave Bay famous for its surfing activities. The rock cliffs near the beach are perfect for rock climbing. Another activity is to tour is the island of Tai Tau Chau - a large rock overlooking South China Sea - which is just across the footbridge from the town square. Shek O Golf and Country Club and Shek O Country Park are also nice to trek.
From here, another Hong Kong attraction must-visit is the Tin Hau Temple which abounds with great history.
How to get there: Take MTR to Shau Kei Wan station. From there, ride Minibus 9. Alight at the last stop.
